RSVP needing volunteer to assist in the

RSVP is starting a MILITARY VETERANS FOCUS GROUP for returning
veterans to assist with re-adjusting to life after returning
from war. LTC John Shaw has offered to head the group
and Advisory Council member Bill Schaefer, volunteers Jim
Brooks, Hank Vincent and Jim DeMaria have volunteered to join the effort. All
volunteers interested in helping, please contact the RSVP

RSVP is in need of 10 volunteers to assist Follansbee Police
Department with Pool Parties on June 25, 2011, July 23,
2011 and August 20, 2011 from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.. Volunteers will assist with
RSVP neighborhood watch program in keeping children safe.

Classic on Monday June 13, 2011 10:00 a.m. to 10:00
p.m., do not

RSVP is partnering with Senior Companions to let volunteers
know of the great opportunity to assist your neighbor.
Guidelines for service are: must be 55, pass a background
check, physical, and meet income guidelines under $21,000
single household and $27,000 double household including
medical deductions. A Senior Companion must commit between
20 – 40 hours per week. Stipend service offers
$2.65/hour and .35 per mile. You can be a Senior
Companion and still volunteer with RSVP. For more details
call RSVP at 304.527.3410.

cartridges and cell phones at your local RSVP office.

Senior Corps Project
RSVP has collected 622 total small, sample or hotel size
toiletries. Please continue to collect these items; they
need to be in your local RSVP office
by June 30, 2011.This can be, shampoo, conditioner,
toothpaste, deodorant, etc. that will be given to local
shelters and military service personnel. Thank you for your
help.

"ASAP"
May 25, 2011, the Moundsville
RSVP, After School Adventure Program held their end of year
program at the Sanford Center site location with seven
student and 8 guest, 2 volunteers and 2 NCOA participants
attending. Those attending were treated to pizza donated by
Varsity Pizza and Pizza Hut. Kroger’s donated bread, paper
products, peanut butter and jelly, and a cake. The Sanford
Center board members donated multi-grain chip, snack bars,
NBA folders and new books for each student.
Guest was given the
opportunity to experience the After School Program with the
children. On display were the “Pyrate” literacy project,
which consisted of the book “Pyrates-Part1”, student
designed pirate vest, treasure chest, maps, and flags. All
were invited to take part in the playing of our hands on
games, such as pool, air hockey, twister and many other
board games.
George Burdette, our newest
volunteer sang “School Days” before the meal was served.
Special thanks to Ashley
Gregorash, outgoing AmeriCorps Vista from Brooke County for
assisting in the preparation of this event, Nicki Melinossis,
Volunteer tutor, Brenda Gray and James Maxwell from the
NCOA for all your handwork and dedication to this program.
Area merchants donated special gift for the volunteers, and
also youth door prizes. Merchants included: Varsity Pizza,
Pizza Hut, Classic Cuts, Our Place Family Hair Care Center,
Tractor and Supply, Ponderosa, Kroger’s, Woods Rehab, and
Curves of Moundsville.

AARP Driver Safety
Program in its ongoing efforts to grow has developed a
working relationship with Retired Educators Ass. that will
run from July 1, 2011 thru August 31, 2011. Anyone
belonging to NRTA can visit
www.aarpvolunteers.com and download the documents. This
is being handled on a national level only and no local SDSP
people have any vouchers. We have been advised to tell our
host agencies about this program.The last week of June,
there will be a blast on the national level. The voucher
will be needed when registering for the class. Any other
