Volunteer Assignments
FREE
VOLUNTEER INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE PROGRAM. One (1)
volunteer serves as District Coordinator and one (1) volunteer serves as
local Coordinator of five (5) counties for TCE program. Four (4)
volunteers attend IRS sponsored training classes annually to be updated
on tax laws and any changes made from prior year (s). They, in
turn, teach tax filing preparation classes to volunteers in five (5) WV
counties. Volunteers assist senior citizens and others with low to
moderate income with Tax filings. Volunteers also make home visits
to "shut-ins" to assist with their filings. Tax sites in
Hancock County: Weirton Senior Center, Hancock county Senior
Center, Chester Library.
Volunteer must attend annual 4 day
training session dealing with changes in tax laws and in general, a
refresher course on tax preparation. You will be tested.
Must achieve high enough score to warrant certification for tax
counseling. The equivalent of at least 1 day per week from
February through April 15th. You may volunteer as many hours as
you wish.
AARP "MATURE DRIVING"
PROGRAM
Volunteers receive state training to enable them to serve as
instructors for this program. Classes held in Hancock County at
Weirton Medical Center, Mary H. Weir Library, Hancock county Senior
Center and Weirton Senior Center.
Volunteer must complete "Instructor
Training" course to be followed by authorization certificate issued
by state trainer. At least 6 hours per day for each training
session in addition to any mandated classes or additional training
required by AARP.
